How can I improve my lawn? Using the correct variety of grass seed and feed will improve your lawn and existing grass can be improved by applying fertiliser incorporating moss and weed killer. Fertiliser gives all plants extra nourishment, but there are so many varieties. Ask our experts for advice.

Have you made hanging baskets before? Come along to this weekend and see live demonstrations of how to put your basket together. Get advise on the correct compost to use and which varieties of plant are best and the 'new' ones for 2017.
The North Devon Beekeepers are once again here for the weekend with their display of 'bee' products - honey, candles etc. Also plenty of opportunity for advice and information about bee keeping from the experts. See our bee and insect friendly plants available for your garden.

This impressive annual craft event is again hosted by St.John's Garden Centre. Delicate small pots, giant rustic bowls, boxes, goblets, platters and wooden fruit. Try your hand at woodturning during the day and ask the experts for advice on courses available. There will be selected items for sale.
Hosted by St.John's the Annual Barnstaple & District Horticultural Society Show is a fabulous feature over this weekend. It is a 'must see' for all vegetable and flower growers. Displaying the best in local produce, including honey, floral arrangements and crafts. Prize giving is on the Sunday.

Local beekeepers are here for the weekend with their extremely tasty local honey to buy. See the bees in a glass fronted hive, spot the Queen bee and browse the bee accessories on display - candles, books etc. Ask for advice and info on all things bee from the experts.
This full and half marathon is again taking place in glorious North Devon in the area of Woolacombe. Billed as the toughest and most beautiful race in the UK. The marathon is sponsored by St.John's Garden Centre and in aid of The North Devon Hospice in Barnstaple. Best of luck to all the runners!
This weekend we are hosting a local Arts Group from Pilton Barnstaple. Come and browse their members work. Some of the art will be for sale and it might encourage you to pick up a paint brush or start another craft - pottery, sculpture, etc. The event will have artists here for advice.
The annual local woodturners show at the garden centre. Browse the fine exhibits, marvel at the craft and try your hand at some simple woodturning. Advice from the experts available. Some woodturning items for sale.
The annual vegetable, flower, cake and craft show. We are hosting Barnstaple & District Horticultural Association Autumn Show. Always a great event and full of amazing products and produce. Fully open to the public to view and enjoy and the prizes and awards are given out on the Sunday afternoon.
St. John's has multiplied! Ashford (Barnstaple) has joined the fold. We are in the process of updating most things - it will take time. The Garden Room restaurant is having a make-over, particularly the kitchen. Great cakes and drinks abound still and a full food menu will be available shortly.
Our very popular family Wildlife Weekend event. Come and find out about Birds, Bees - in their glass fronted hive, local Bats and other wildlife in lovely North Devon. Prof St.John is also here with his craft work for kids - to make and take away. We look forward to having fun together!
Our staff have been working really hard this year (they do every year) to present you with a fabulous display of all things festive. There will be something for everyone so as soon as you can pay us a visit. The theme is 'Christmas around the World' and showing is our South American bauble.
Not long to wait now! Our fabulous 'Santa Arrives Night' will be happening on Friday 23 November. Come early to enjoy the atmosphere, fair rides and fun. Santa arrive on his horse drawn sleigh at 5.30pm. Capt Coconut and the Bubble Queen are with us plus brilliant ballon animals to take home.

Join in this week of bird counting in your garden. Download an info pack from www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch. Spend an hour or two counting the birds and send the details to us to be included in the nationwide bird count.
The British Trust for Ornithology have their annual nest box event. We can help by promoting local wild birds. Put up your nest box (we have plenty for sale at all prices), or make your own - ideas on the BTO website. The one shown is made from a drinks carton... very sustainable.
